It’s okay to giggle.

It’s only after watching the movie – Witness, that I, many years ago, started to read a bit more about the Amish community.

And it would have remained that way, information gleaned from reading books and magazines about this community. Much like the community, this was before the days of the internet.

Then, on my first visit to the US, specifically NYC, another friend who was also visiting suggested a day trip to Philadelphia with a visit to Intercourse added in.

Intercourse, PA is considered to be the heart of the Amish Country in Lancaster County. Surrounded by beautiful Amish farms, this town is where Amish farmers, craftsmen, and local folks meet up to conduct their business and socialize.

Walking around is like stepping back in time. Where else can you see a car overtake a horse-drawn carriage with more curious tourists soaking it all in?

From the clickety-clack of horse hooves on the streets to savoring home-cooked delights, Intercourse has something that no other place offers. It’s also an excellent way to discover and understand a bit more of the ways of the Amish community.
