Relax at Live Oak Brewing Co’s Taproom

If you are looking to try out some great food, drinks and music, then I’m not sure if there are too many places that beat Austin, Texas. Sure, I missed out on the music. So, I won’t comment on that. But the food and drinks are something else altogether.

A few years ago, when visiting a friend’s mom there, we decided to go check out a craft brewery. Without having done any research, I was at a loss, trying to figure out the best place where we could head. Thankfully, our host knew of a couple of places.

Live Oak Brewing Co’s Taproom is just off Highway 71 and is right across Austin Bergstrom International Airport. Well nearly. Driving into this place, I was pleasantly surprised to see a neatly designed brewery and a good enough selection of German style lager beers on tap. However, what was even nicer was the shaded area right outside, with picnic tables. Depending on the time of the year, it’s the best spot to sit and catch up with your buds.

Inside, they have long communal style tables and benches. Before you get comfortable sitting down though, why not go to any two of the ordering stations and decide which of the beers you would like to be sipping on for the day. You can expect a selection of at least 10 regular and seasonal varieties, including classic lagers and other seasonal styles that you aren’t going to see too often anywhere else. Even better, most of them are brewed in-house. Right behind the ordering stations.

A little bit of research threw up an interesting fact. While the company has been around since 1997, this brewery only opened sometime in 2016, if I am not mistaken. Which makes sense as there was an air of freshness all around. I visited in January of 2017.

Once you are done with the drinking, and should you feel like a little bit of nibble, don’t fret. There should be a couple of food trucks parked right outside the brewery on the side of the road.

Would I recommend it? Absolutely. Where else are you going to get a place where you have ample space to stretch your legs, sit back and relax, while sipping on some seriously refreshing beer. Two pieces of advice though. The first is that I don’t drink and drive and would encourage you not to either. Distances being what they are in Texas especially, everybody drives from one spot to the other. I was lucky that my host didn’t drink. The second, and most important one – don’t stop at the brewery if you have a flight to catch. You wouldn’t want to miss your flight simply because you were having such a good time, would you. I say this out of experience.

Live Oak Brewery Co is open daily, from 12 noon to 9pm Sunday through Thursday, and 12 noon to 10pm Friday and Saturday.
